Illuminating modern luxury

INFINITI light designer Naomichi Ide shares the inspiration behind the lighting on the all-new QX80

In Japanese gardens and architecture, there is no boundary between exterior and interior. This seamless transition is referred to as "utsuroi," and it played an influential role in shaping the lighting on the all-new INFINITI QX80.

Designer Naomichi Ide oversaw the lighting design for INFINITI's all new flagship QX80 SUV. Using light, he delivers an enchanting and memorable experience as owners approach their vehicle.

In the same way light guides guests to the entrance at a Japanese ryokan (a traditional Japanese inn), Ide wanted to create a sense of drama and thoughtful hospitality as you approach the QX80. This led his team to develop the INFINITI Light Path, which guides you to the vehicle as part of a dramatic welcome sequence.

"Designing light poses a unique challenge," says Ide. "It's something intangible, unlike a physical object."
